Ubuntu Hiking is a nonprofit organization based in Jamestown, Stellenbosch.

Since 2015, we’ve been guiding youth, school groups and communities on transformative hikes that ignite confidence, foster connection and cultivate a deep respect for the environment.  We are not a traditional hiking club.  Ubuntu Hiking is a community-driven initiative that uses hiking as a powerful tool for education, empowerment, wellness and awareness especially among youth and communities.  We believe that every child deserves the chance to explore nature, uncover their inner strength and experience a sense of belonging, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Our Volunteers

Ubuntu Hiking is powered by a dedicated group of volunteers who guide, mentor and inspire the young hikers we serve. They bring energy to every trail, kindness to every step and heart to every adventure.

Together they form the backbone of our community—planning hikes, leading groups, sharing skills and making sure everyone feels supported and seen. Whether navigating mountain paths or encouraging a first-time hiker, their impact is immeasurable.

Ubuntu Hiking volunteers are selected based on key criteria and receive basic training to ensure group safety on every hike.

Interested in joining? Email us at info@uhike.co.za to learn more about the criteria and application process.
